Feed the baby while awake, but if you do not succeed, you can also feed while the baby is asleep. Before feeding, the mother should wash his / her hands and the head and surrounding area should be cleaned with clean water. There is no need to use soap or alcohol to clean the nipple.
* Sit at a comfortable place while you are breastfeeding and have your back on one side. Instead of leaning on your baby, with a pillow you can place your lap, you can bring the baby to the breast level.
* Hold the baby in position with one hand and support the breast with the last 3 fingers of your free hand. Drive the nipple forward to the mouth corner of the baby, alert the baby to the search reflex, and give breast when baby open his/her mouth. Repeat this movement until he/she find it and open his/her mouth, do not force the baby.
* The baby should be kept as upright as possible when breastfeeding. In a lying position, breast feeding causes the baby to run out of milk and to swallow more gas.
* Be careful not to obstruct your baby’s nose when you are breastfeeding.
* In breast feeding, not only the nipple but also the dark area around the nipple should be provided to the child’s mouth.
* In each session two breasts should be given. Every feed should begin with the previously breast.
* While separating baby from the breast, insert a finger slightly into his/her mouth to make sure he/she does not injure the breast.
* After breastfeeding, the baby should be erected on the shoulder and sucked air (gas) should be removed.
