The Newborn baby’s skin is covered with a white, waxy, protective, slippery substance called vermix, and it is not need to be cleaned after born. Fall of umbilical cord can be expected to wash baby. During this time the baby’s face and body are wiped clean and the clothes are changed frequently.
If proper conditions exist after fall of umbilical cord, baby can be washed every day if not, baby can be washed every other day. It is best to wash your baby before feeding or 1-1.5 hours after feeding. You should have an assistant when you are washing your baby. In the first 1-2 weeks the water to be used for washing must be preboiled and heated.
Baby can be held by grasping the chest and stomach as his/her face is down while washing the baby. If baby are held on his/her back, you need to support his/her head manually. Products specially prepared for babies should be preferred. It is important that the baby is thoroughly rinsed and dried. Water should be 36.5-37 centigrade degrees and room temperature should be 24-26 centigrade degrees.
